Janet contacted Laura from New York. She told Laura that she had found another person and was considering divorce, even sending a real estate agent to assess the house. Laura tried to reconcile with her parents, but in vain because Janet told her that she lived in New York but would provide Laura with an apartment. Jamie and his parents were evicted and moved into a heavily sloping mobile home.
